Planning as a management function
OVERALL OUTCOME

This learning programme will enable learners to demonstrate understand and skill in the management function of planning by developing plans to achieved defined objectives.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This learning programme is intended for junior managers of small organisations, junior managers of business units in medium and large organisations, or those aspiring to these positions. Junior managers include team leaders, supervisors, foremen and section heads.

SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this learning programme learners should be able to:

  • Identify and explain the core business of an organisation.
  • Explain the types of work done within the various core activities of an organisation.
  • Explain the role of a selected work unit in an organisation in relation to the core business.
  • Identify and explain the difference between the line and support functions within a selected organisation.
  • Explain the relationship between the type, ownership and size of an organisation and its management structure.
  • Explain the relationship between various management roles.
  • Specify objectives and formulate a plan.
  • Co-ordinate people and other resources and implement the plan to meet objectives.
  • Evaluate results and make corrections and improvements.
  • Understand the overall strategy of an organisation.
  • Understand how the activities of own area of responsibility align with the overall strategy of the organisation.
  • Communicate to the members of own team how its area of responsibility aligns to the overall organisational strategy.
  • Respond critically yet sensitively as a listener/audience
  • Analyse own responses to spoken/signed texts and adjust as required.
  • Use strategies to be an effective speaker/signer in sustained oral/signed interactions.

DURATION

LEARNING METHODOLOGY

Interactive learning using experiential learning methodology to practically learn and apply skills. The assessment component will consist of an assessment briefing session, a one-on-one coaching, learners support, feedback and remediation sessions.
